Review

This is official description

Window-Eyes is nothing less than the most stable screen reader available on the market today.Window-Eyes puts you in the hands of the most powerful screen reading software ever created.Window-Eyes gives total control over what you hear and how you hear it.

The following review written by one of the Software Informer contributors applies to version 7.2

Window-Eyes is a program to aid the visually impaired to work with a computer.

This program will read the screen content and anything that you select with the pointer of your mouse, and then will speak in a loud voice, reading the title of a window, the text in a document, or giving you a description of available commands. It will also tell the operator about system messages appearing on the screen. You can configure what to hear through the Settings panel. You can also tell the program to redirect the speech (aimed by default to your sound card and speakers) to several compatible speech devices. Window-Eyes also supports to display what it reads through Braille displays.

The Window-Eyes demo is fully functional except for one item: it will not read the commands in the menu bars. You can use this evaluation version without charge but you will not be able to use it for more than thirty minutes each time. You will need to reboot your computer, and then the program will let you use it again for another thirty minutes.
  • It is a good tool for the visually impaired.
  • It is highly priced.

What's new in version 7.5

GW Micro is proud to announce the release of Window-Eyes 7.5.1. This version includes improved support for the latest versions of Firefox, improvements to Internet Explorer 9 support, Office fixes, user interface improvements, Outlook and Thunderbird enhancements, and bug fixes found in Window-Eyes 7.5.

What's new in version 7.2

Window-Eyes now fully supports both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Office 2010. One of the more significant features of Window-Eyes support for Office 2010 is UIA support for the Outlook 2010 message list views (such as the Inbox).

Several performance enhancements have been made. Window-Eyes 7.2 now launches much faster when using Windows Vista or greater. Navigating list views is now much faster. In addition, cases like tabbing between address fields in Outlook Express have also been sped up. Each of these speed enhancements, coupled with the dramatic speed increase provided by the Window-Eyes Eloquence Performance Patch (now fully integrated), make Window-Eyes 7.2 much more efficient than previous versions, especially under the newer operating systems.

Added Braille.DisplayMode as a read/write property. This sets or returns an item from the new BrailleDisplayMode enum (bdmStructured, bdmLine, and bdmSpeechBox), allowing you to retrieve and set the current Braille display mode.

Added bhkRotorDisplayMode, bhkLeftOneCell, and bhkRightOneCell to the BrailleHotkeyID enum. This means you can now execute these hotkeys with the ExecuteBrailleHotkey method.

The Control.Id property is now read and write. Previously it was read only.
